Phyllis Houston of Re$ume Xpert offers RESUME REVIEWS at some of the JobZone Job Fair Events.
This mobile business was built from a genuine passion for helping others. With 35 years of federal service and two decades of experience writing résumés across a wide range of professional fields, I combine integrity, strong writing skills, and an eye for visual appeal to create polished, keyword-optimized documents that highlight industry-specific achievements. As the spouse of a retired military service member and a former federal employee with stateside and overseas experience, I bring deep insight and professionalism to every résumé I craft.

Job Seeker Tips and Resources
Matching Job Seekers With Employers
Bring enough resumes to hand out for all jobs which you feel you are qualified and would like to be considered for. We cannot stress enough how important the presentation of your resume is as well as how it is written. In addition to the content, your resume should be no more than two pages for your networking resume. Generally a 1 to 2 page resume is adequate for networking a job fair. For help in reviewing, revising or preparing your resume, visit our Resources page, or contact our office for referrals (434-263-5102).
Dress for success. As trite as this sounds, it is very important. Presentation of you as a professional person is as important as your resume. So, take a few extra minutes in front of the mirror before you come to our Job Fair. It will be worth it. Military uniform is acceptable. If you do not have business suit, be sure to dress a step up from casual. A collared shirt is a must! (Do not wear jeans or T-shirts). Hire a Babysitter. If a babysitter is unavailable, then team up with another job seeker with kids and take turns watching the kids outside the Job Fair area. Remember you should be prepared to make the best impression.
Be prepared for the instant interview. Do your homework, look at the companies, Federal agencies, contractors, etc. who will be at our Job Fair. Choose those which you think may have job opportunities which may fit your needs. Review their websites and become familiar with their industry and job requirements. Be prepared to ask questions and most importantly be prepared to convince your interviewer (whether at the Job Fair or later) that you are the best candidate for the job. This is an opportunity to sell your skills and land that perfect job!
Be confident, self assured and have the mind set that YOU are the best qualified candidate for the job you want. Always keep in mind THE COMPANY IS INTERVIEWING YOU, BUT YOU ARE ALSO INTERVIEWING THE COMPANY. Stay focused on the skills you want to use in your next job, and be sure to relate to the employer how these skills meet the requirements for the position. Afterall, you are the best candidate for the job!
