5/1/2026 – JOB SEEKERS – READ THIS FIRST! VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT – READ THIS TO STAND OUT!

(full event schedule beneath this message)

Right now, employers are actively searching and struggling to find resumes. At the same time, many job seekers have not yet adjusted to the new JobZoneOnline system. That combination creates a huge opportunity for you.

Because very few users are currently registering for events and even fewer are uploading resumes, competition is unusually low. If you complete the required steps now, you immediately put yourself ahead of the majority of job seekers and dramatically increase your visibility to employers.

This is one of the best times to stand out on JobZoneOnline — but only if you take action.

To Get Results on JobZoneOnline, These Four Steps Are Essential

  1. Log in to your account
  2. Upload AND ‘SAVE PROFILE’ with your resume attached
  3. Register for events ahead of time
  4. Apply to companies and/or specific job vacancies

If any of these steps are missing, employers cannot fully see you.

Uploading and Saving Your Resume (CRITICAL)

An account without a saved resume is essentially invisible to employers.

  • You must be logged in
  • Go to /new-dashboard or click Profile in the top menu
  • Upload your resume
  • MAKE SURE TO CLICK “SAVE PROFILE” — your resume/any changes are not active until it is saved

Important notes:

  • Only one resume can be uploaded per account
  • Updating your resume automatically updates it across all past, current, and future applications
  • If your resume is not saved, employers cannot view you, even if you are registered for events or applying to jobs

Register for Events Ahead of Time (This Is How Employers Find You Early)

Employers review resumes before job fairs and hiring events take place.

Your resume is visible to an employer only if all three conditions are met:

  1. The employer is registered for an event
  2. You are registered for the same event
  3. A resume has been successfully saved to your profile

Missing even one of these means your resume will not appear.

Registering is simple:

  • Click Register for Event
  • Register for as many events as you want

Applying to Employers

Once logged in with a saved resume, you can apply in two ways:

  • Express Interest in a company (general interest)
  • Apply directly to specific job openings with a single click

Both options require that you are logged in and that your resume is saved.

Why This Matters Right Now

Employers are actively looking. Very few candidates are fully set up.
That means less competition and more opportunity for those who complete these steps.

Final Checklist

Before leaving this page, confirm that you have:

  • Logged in
  • Uploaded your resume
  • Clicked SAVE PROFILE with your resume attached
  • Registered for upcoming events
  • Applied to companies or job openings

Completing all four steps puts you in front of employers when they need candidates the most.

Matching Job Seekers With Employers

Bring enough resumes to hand out for all jobs which you feel you are qualified and would like to be considered for.
We cannot stress enough how important the presentation of your resume is as well as how it is written. In addition to the content, your resume should be no more than two pages for your networking resume. Generally, a 1 to 2 page resume is adequate for networking a job fair. For help in reviewing, revising or preparing your resume, visit our Resources page, or contact our office for referrals (434-263-5102).

Dress for success.
As trite as this sounds, it is very important. Presentation of you as a professional person is as important as your resume. So, take a few extra minutes in front of the mirror before you come to our Job Fair. It will be worth it. Military uniform is acceptable. If you do not have business suit, be sure to dress a step up from casual. A collared shirt is a must! (Do not wear jeans or T-shirts).
Hire a Babysitter. If a babysitter is unavailable, then team up with another job seeker with kids and take turns watching the kids outside the Job Fair area. Remember you should be prepared to make the best impression.

Be prepared for the instant interview.
Do your homework, look at the companies, Federal agencies, contractors, etc. who will be at our Job Fair. Choose those which you think may have job opportunities which may fit your needs. Review their websites and become familiar with their industry and job requirements. Be prepared to ask questions and most importantly be prepared to convince your interviewer (whether at the Job Fair or later) that you are the best candidate for the job. This is an opportunity to sell your skills and land that perfect job!

Be confident, self assured and have the mind set that YOU are the best qualified candidate for the job you want. Always keep in mind THE COMPANY IS INTERVIEWING YOU, BUT YOU ARE ALSO INTERVIEWING THE COMPANY. Stay focused on the skills you want to use in your next job, and be sure to relate to the employer how these skills meet the requirements for the position. Afterall, you are the best candidate for the job!
